Leadership Coaching - who you are is how you lead
"Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement."
Golda Meir, Israeli Founder and Prime Minister (1898-1978)
Great leaders mobilise and motivate others because of who they are, not just by what they do or say. They have deep self-knowledge, high emotional intelligence, and know how to use their talents, values, experience and attitudes to greatest effect. This is why we focus on your unique attributes and how to "play" them more expertly, more of the time. We believe it is the foundation of exceptional leadership presence and impact.
"One piece of log creates a small fire, adequate to warm you up, add just a few more pieces to blast a huge bonfire, large enough to warm up your entire circle of friends; needless to say that individuality counts but team work dynamites."
Jin Kwon, Korean Martial Arts Master b. 1957
High performing teams have a shared, meaningful purpose that all members are committed to. Each person understands their personal contribution to the achievement of this purpose. Team members support each other in playing to their strengths, and everyone cares about everyone else's growth and learning. Really effective teams know each other well, trust each other, are able to have robust debates about contentious subjects, and take shared accountability for delivering high quality results. Team members are able to be vulnerable with each other without fear of recriminations - in fact, they regard admitting mistakes and weaknesses as the only way to learn and grow stronger.
"Nothing truly valuable can be achieved except by the unselfish cooperation of many individuals."
Albert Einstein ((1879-1955)
Human beings are social creatures. We want to connect to other people - indeed, in infancy we have to connect to someone who will care for us, to stay alive. But groups, particularly at work where issues of power, politics, hierarchy and belonging are present, can be difficult places and the dynamics within and between groups, particularly large groups, can be complex. Sometimes great things happen in groups - and sometimes the opposite. Successful groups need their participants to feel safe enough to contribute. This means trusting your co-participants, and being vulnerable. In times of organisational change (departmental restructuring, for example), people can feel threatened and highly anxious, and creating an environment in which a group can function effectively and productively is a highly skilled task. We are experts in large group processes such as World Cafe, Open Space Technology, and Appreciative Inquiry. We can also design tailor-made group processes that take into account your specific circumstances and objectives.
